Metal active gas welding (MAG-welding)

In a tack welding machine, the connecting edges are pressed together without offset and are continuously tack welded in the MAG tack welding process.

This welding process is metal shielding gas welding. In the MAG tack welding process, the shielding gas is active (active gas welding). Depending on the requirements for the tack weld, different shielding gas mixing ratios are possible (CO2, O2 and argon). However, in most applications, only CO2 is used.

The tack weld serves for maintaining the forming in the following production steps and for weld pool support for submerged arc welding of the internal seam (internal SAW).

Welding speeds of MAG tack welding processes are considerably higher than welding speeds of submerged arc welding processes .
